Prophetia Jeremiae

Verbum quod factum est ad Jeremiam a Domino in diebus Joakim filii Josiæ regis Juda, dicens:

The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord in the days of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda, saying:

Verbo quod facto es ad Ieremia ab Domino in dies Ioakime de filio de Iosiase de rege Iuda, dicente:

Vade ad domum Rechabitarum, et loquere eis, et introduces eos in domum Domini, in unam exedram thesaurorum, et dabis eis bibere vinum.

Go to the house of the Rechabites: and speak to them, and bring them into the house of the Lord, into one of the chambers of the treasures, and thou shalt give them wine to drink.

Vade ad domo de Rechabitas, et loque ad illos, et introduce illos in domo de Domino, in uno exedra de thesauros, et da ad illos bibe vino.

Et assumpsi Jezoniam filium Jeremiæ filii Habsaniæ, et fratres ejus, et omnes filios ejus, et universam domum Rechabitarum,

And I took Jezonias the son of Jeremiah the son of Habsanias, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites.

Et assume Iezonia filio de Ieremia de filio de Habsania, et fratres de illo, et omni filios de illo, et universa domo de Rechabitas,

et introduxi eos in domum Domini, ad gazophylacium filiorum Hanan filii Jegedeliæ hominis Dei, quod erat juxta gazophylacium principum, super thesaurum Maasiæ filii Sellum, qui erat custos vestibuli:

And I brought them into the house of the Lord, to the treasure house of the sons of Hanan, the son of Jegedelias the man of God, which was by the treasure house of the princes, above the treasure of Maasias the son of Sellum, who was keeper of the entry.

Et introduce illos in domo de Domino, ad gazophylacio de filios Hanane de filio de Iegedelia de homine de Deo, quod es juxta gazophylacio de principes, super thesauro de Maasia de filio Sello, qui es custode de vestibulo:

et posui coram filiis domus Rechabitarum scyphos plenos vino, et calices, et dixi ad eos: Bibite vinum.

And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups: and I said to them: Drink ye wine.

Et pone coram filios de domos de Rechabitas scyphos plena vino, et calices, et dic ad illos: bibe vino.

Qui responderunt Non bibemus vinum, quia Jonadab filius Rechab, pater noster, præcepit nobis, dicens: Non bibetis vinum, vos et filii vestri, usque in sempiternum:

And they answered: We will not drink wine: because Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying: You shall drink no wine, neither you, nor your children, for ever:

Qui responde Non bibe vino, quia Ionadabe filio Rechabe, patre nostro, praecipie ad nos, dicente: non bibe vino, vos et filios vestro, usque in sempiterno:

et domum non ædificabitis, et sementem non seretis, et vineas non plantabitis, nec habebitis: sed in tabernaculis habitabitis cunctis diebus vestris, ut vivatis diebus multis super faciem terræ in qua vos peregrinamini.

Neither shall ye build houses, nor sow reed, nor plant vineyards, nor have any: but you shall dwell in tents all your days, that you may live many days upon the face of the earth, in which you are strangers.

Et domo non aedifica, et semente non sere, et vineas non planta, nec habe: sed in tabernaculos habita cuncta dies vestro, ut vive dies multo super facie de terra in quo vos peregrinor.

Obedivimus ergo voci Jonadab filii Rechab, patris nostri, in omnibus quæ præcepit nobis, ita ut non biberemus vinum cunctis diebus nostris, nos, et mulieres nostræ, filii, et filiæ nostræ,

Therefore we have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all things that he commanded us: so as to drink no wine all our days: neither we, nor our wives, nor our sons, nor our daughters:

Obedi ergo ad voce Ionadabe de filio Rechabe, de patre nostro, in omni que praecipie ad nos, ita ut non bibe vino cuncta dies nostro, nos, et mulieres nostro, filios, et filias nostro,

et non ædificaremus domos ad habitandum: et vineam, et agrum, et sementem non habuimus:

Nor to build houses to dwell in, nor to have vineyard, or field, or seed:

Et non aedifica domos ad habita: et vinea, et agro, et semente non habe:

sed habitavimus in tabernaculis, et obedientes fuimus juxta omnia quæ præcepit nobis Jonadab pater noster.

But we have dwelt in tents, and have been obedient according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

Sed habita in tabernaculos, et obedi es juxta omni Ionadabe patre ad nos nostro praecipie que.

Cum autem ascendisset Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis ad terram nostram, diximus: Venite, et ingrediamur Jerusalem a facie exercitus Chaldæorum, et a facie exercitus Syriæ: et mansimus in Jerusalem.

But when Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon came up to our land, we said: Come, let us go into Jerusalem from the face of the army of the Chaldeans, and from the face of the army of Syria: and we have remained in Jerusalem.

Cum autem ascende ad Nabuchodonosor rege de Babylone ad terra nostro, dic: veni, et ingredior Ierusalem ab facie de exercitu de Chaldaeis, et ab facie de exercitu de Syria: et mane in Ierusalem.

Et factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam, dicens:

And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying:

Et facto es verbo de Domino ad Ieremia, dicente:

Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël: Vade, et dic viris Juda et habitatoribus Jerusalem: Numquid non recipietis disciplinam, ut obediatis verbis meis? dicit Dominus.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Go, and say to the men of Juda, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem: Will you not receive instruction, to obey my words, saith the Lord?

Hoc dic Domino de exercitus, Deo Israële: vade, et dic ad viros Iuda et ad habitatores Ierusalem: numquid non recipe disciplina, ut obedi verbos meo? Domino dic.

Prævaluerunt sermones Jonadab filii Rechab quos præcepit filiis suis ut non biberent vinum, et non biberunt usque ad diem hanc, quia obedierunt præcepto patris sui: ego autem locutus sum ad vos, de mane consurgens et loquens, et non obedistis mihi.

The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, by which he commanded his sons not to drink wine, have prevailed: and they have drunk none to this day, because they have obeyed the commandment of their father: but I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, and you have not obeyed me.

Praevale sermones Ionadabe filios Rechabe que praecipie ad filios suo ut non bibe vino, et non bibe usque ad die hoc, quia obedi praecepto de patre suo: me autem locuto es ad vos, de mane consurge et loquente, et non obedi ad me.

Misique ad vos omnes servos meos prophetas, consurgens diluculo mittensque, et dicens: Convertimini unusquisque a via sua pessima, et bona facite studia vestra: et nolite sequi deos alienos, neque colatis eos, et habitabitis in terra quam dedi vobis et patribus vestris: et non inclinastis aurem vestram, neque audistis me.

And I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early, and sending and saying: Return ye every man from his wicked way, and make your ways good: and follow not strange gods, nor worship them, and you shall dwell in the land, which I gave you and your fathers: and you have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened to me.

Et mitte ad vos omni servos meo prophetas, consurge diluculo et mitte, et dicente: converte et unusquis ab via suo pessima, et bono fac studios vestro: et ne vol seque deos aliena, neque cole illos, et habita in terra quam da ad vos et ad patres vestro: et non inclina aure vestro, neque audi me.

Firmaverunt igitur filii Jonadab filii Rechab præceptum patris sui quod præceperat eis: populus autem iste non obedivit mihi.

So the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have constantly kept the commandment of their father, which he commanded them: but this people hath not obeyed me.

Filios ergo Ionadabe de filio Rechabe firma praecepto de patre suo quod praecipie ad illos: populo autem isto non obedi ad me.

Idcirco hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël: Ecce ego adducam super Juda et super omnes habitatores Jerusalem universam afflictionem quam locutus sum adversum illos, eo quod locutus sum ad illos, et non audierunt; vocavi illos, et non responderunt mihi.

Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Behold I will bring upon Juda, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them, and they have not heard: I have called to them, and they have not answered me.

Ergo hoc dic Domino de exercitus, Deo Israële: ecce me adduce super Iuda et super omni habitatores Ierusalem universa afflictione quam locuto es contra illos, eo quod locuto es ad illos, et non audi; voca illos, et non responde ad me.

Domui autem Rechabitarum dixit Jeremias: Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël: Pro eo quod obedistis præcepto Jonadab patris vestri, et custodistis omnia mandata ejus, et fecistis universa quæ præcepit vobis,

And Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites: Thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and have kept all his precepts, and have done all that he commanded you:

Ad domo autem de Rechabitas Ieremia dic: hoc dic Domino de exercitus, Deo Israële: pro eo quod obedi praecepto Ionadabe de patre vestro, et custodi omni mandatos de illo, et fac universa que praecipie ad vos,

propterea hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël: Non deficiet vir de stirpe Jonadab filii Rechab, stans in conspectu meo cunctis diebus.

Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: There shall not be wanting a man of the race of Jonadab the son of Rechab, standing before me for ever.

Propter hoc hoc dic Domino de exercitus, Deo Israële: non viro defice de stirpe Ionadabe de filio Rechabe, stante in conspectu meo cuncta dies.
