Liber Job

Omiserunt autem tres viri isti respondere Job, eo quod justus sibi videretur.

So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he seemed just to himself.

Tre autem viros isto omitte responde Iobe, eo quod iusto ad se vide.

Et iratus indignatusque est Eliu filius Barachel Buzites, de cognatione Ram: iratus est autem adversum Job, eo quod justum se esse diceret coram Deo.

And Eliu the son of Barachel the Buzite of the kindred of Ram, was angry and was moved to indignation: now he was angry against Job, because he said he was just before God.

Et irascor et indignor es Elio filio Barachele Buzite, de cognatione Ramo: irascor es autem contra Iobe, eo quod iusto se es dic coram Deo.

Porro adversum amicos ejus indignatus est, eo quod non invenissent responsionem rationabilem, sed tantummodo condemnassent Job.

And he was angry with his friends, because they had not found a reasonable answer, but only had condemned Job.

Porro contra amicos de illo indignor es, eo quod non inveni responsione rationabile, sed tantummodo condemna Iobe.

Igitur Eliu expectavit Job loquentem, eo quod seniores essent qui loquebantur.

So Eliu waited while Job was speaking because they were his elders that were speaking.

Ergo Elio expecta Iobe loque, eo quod sene es qui loque.

Cum autem vidisset quod tres respondere non potuissent, iratus est vehementer.

But when he saw that the three were not able to answer, he was exceedingly angry.

Cum autem vide quod tre responde non pote, irascor es vehementer.

Respondensque Eliu filius Barachel Buzites, dixit: Junior sum tempore, vos autem antiquiores: idcirco, demisso capite, veritus sum vobis indicare meam sententiam.

Then Eliu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered, and said: I am younger in days, and you are more ancient, therefore hanging down my head, I was afraid to shew you my opinion.

Et respondente Elio filio Barachele Buzite, dic: iunene es tempore, vos autem antiquo: ergo, demitte capite, vereor es ad vos indica meo sententia.

Sperabam enim quod ætas prolixior loqueretur, et annorum multitudo doceret sapientiam.

For I hoped that greater age would speak, and that a multitude of years would teach wisdom.

Spera nam quod aetate prolixo loque, et de annos multitudine doce sapientia.

Sed, ut video, spiritus est in hominibus, et inspiratio Omnipotentis dat intelligentiam.

But, as I see, there is a spirit in men, and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth understanding.

Sed, ut vide, spiritu es in homines, et inspiratione de Omnipotento da intelligentia.

Non sunt longævi sapientes, nec senes intelligunt judicium.

They that are aged are not the wise men, neither do the ancients understand judgment.

Non es longaevo sape, nec senes intellege iudicio.

Ideo dicam: Audite me: ostendam vobis etiam ego meam sapientiam.

Therefore I will speak: Hearken to me, I also will shew you my wisdom.

Ideo dic: audi me: me ad vos etiam ostende meo sapientia.

Expectavi enim sermones vestros; audivi prudentiam vestram, donec disceptaremini sermonibus;

For I have waited for your words, I have given ear to your wisdom, as long as you were disputing in words.

De expectate nam sermones vestro; audi prudentia vestro, usque que discepta sermones;

et donec putabam vos aliquid dicere, considerabam: sed, ut video, non est qui possit arguere Job, et respondere ex vobis sermonibus ejus.

And as long as I thought you said some thing, I considered: but, as I see, there is none of you that can convince Job, and answer his words.

Et usque que puta vos aliquo dicere, considera: sed, ut vide, non es qui pote argue Iobe, et responde ex vos sermones de illo.

Ne forte dicatis: Invenimus sapientiam: Deus projecit eum, non homo.

Lest you should say: We have found wisdom, God hath cast him down, not man.

Ne forte dic: inveni sapientia: deo proicie illo, non homine.

Nihil locutus est mihi: et ego non secundum sermones vestros respondebo illi.

He hath spoken nothing to me, and I will not answer him according to your words.

Nihil locuto es ad me: et me non secundo sermones vestro responde ad illo.

Extimuerunt, nec responderunt ultra, abstuleruntque a se eloquia.

They were afraid, and answered no more, and they left off speaking.

Extimesce, nec responde ultra, et aufer ab se eloquios.

Quoniam igitur expectavi, et non sunt locuti: steterunt, nec ultra responderunt:

Therefore because I have waited, and they have not spoken: they stood, and answered no more:

Quia ergo expecta, et non es loque: sta, nec ultra responde:

respondebo et ego partem meam, et ostendam scientiam meam.

I also will answer my part, and will shew my knowledge.

Et me responde parte meo, et ostende scientia meo.

Plenus sum enim sermonibus, et coarctat me spiritus uteri mei.

For I am full of matter to speak of, and the spirit of my bowels straiteneth me.

Plena es nam sermones, et spiritu de utro meo coarcta me.

En venter meus quasi mustum absque spiraculo, quod lagunculas novas disrumpit.

Behold, my belly is as new wine which wanteth vent, which bursteth the new vessels.

En ventre meo quasi musto absque spiraculo, quod lagunculas novo dirumpe.

Loquar, et respirabo paululum: aperiam labia mea, et respondebo.

I will speak and take breath a little: I will open my lips, and will answer.

Loque, et respira paul(l)ulum: aperi labias meo, et responde.

Non accipiam personam viri, et Deum homini non æquabo.

I will not accept the person of man, and I will not level God with man.

Non accipe persona de viro, et Deo ad homine non aequa.

Nescio enim quamdiu subsistam, et si post modicum tollat me factor meus.

For I know not how long I shall continue, and whether after a while my Maker may take me away.

Ne sci nam quamdiu subsiste, et si post modico factore meo tolle me.
