Epistola I ad Corinthios

Paulus vocatus Apostolus Jesu Christi per voluntatem Dei, et Sosthenes frater,

Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Sosthenes a brother,

Paulo vocato Apostolo de Iesu de Christo per voluntate de Deo, et Sosthene fratre,

ecclesiæ Dei, quæ est Corinthi, sanctificatis in Christo Jesu, vocatis sanctis, cum omnibus qui invocant nomen Domini nostri Jesu Christi, in omni loco ipsorum et nostro.

To the church of God that is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that invoke the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place of theirs and ours.

De ecclesia de Deo, que es de Corintho, sanctifica in Christo Iesu, voca sancto, cum omni qui invoca nomine de Domino nostro de Iesu de Christo, in omni loco ipso et nostro.

Gratia vobis, et pax a Deo Patre nostro, et Domino Jesu Christo.

Grace to you and peace, from God our father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Gratia ad vos, et pace ab Deo Patre nostro, et Domino Iesu Christo.

Gratias ago Deo meo semper pro vobis in gratia Dei, quæ data est vobis in Christo Jesu:

I give thanks to my God always for you, for the grace of God that is given you in Christ Jesus:

Gratias age ad Deo meo semper pro vos in gratia de Deo, que da es ad vos in Christo Iesu:

quod in omnibus divites facti estis in illo, in omni verbo, et in omni scientia.

That in all things you are made rich in him, in all utterance and in all knowledge;

Quod in omni divite fac es in illo, in omni verbo, et in omni scientia.

Sicut testimonium Christi confirmatum est in vobis:

As the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you,

Sicut testimonio de Christo confirma es in vos:

ita ut nihil vobis desit in ulla gratia, exspectantibus revelationem Domini nostri Jesu Christi,

So that nothing is wanting to you in any grace, waiting for the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ita ut nihil ad vos desume in ullo gratia, expecta revelatione de Domino nostro de Iesu de Christo,

qui et confirmabit vos usque in finem sine crimine, in die adventus Domini nostri Jesu Christi.

Who also will confirm you unto the end without crime, in the days of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Qui et confirma vos usque in fine sine crimine, in die de adventu de Domino nostro de Iesu de Christo.

Fidelis Deus: per quem vocati estis in societatem filii ejus Jesu Christi Domini nostri.

God is faithful: by whom you are called unto the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Fideli Deo: per quem voca es in societate de filio de illo de Iesu de Christo de Domino nostro.

Obsecro autem vos fratres per nomen Domini nostri Jesu Christi: ut idipsum dicatis omnes, et non sint in vobis schismata: sitis autem perfecti in eodem sensu, et in eadem sententia.

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing and that there be no schisms among you: but that you be perfect in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Obsecra autem vos fratres per nomine de Domino nostro de Iesu de Christo: ut idipso dic omni, et non es in vos schismates: es autem perfecto in idem sensu, et in idem sententia.

Significatum est enim mihi de vobis fratres mei ab iis, qui sunt Chloës, quia contentiones sunt inter vos.

For it hath been signified unto me, my brethren, of you, by them that are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

Significa es nam ad me de vos fratres meo ab illo, qui es de Chloë, quia contentiones es inter vos.

Hoc autem dico, quod unusquisque vestrum dicit: Ego quidem sum Pauli: ego autem Apollo: ego vero Cephæ: ego autem Christi.

Now this I say, that every one of you saith: I indeed am of Paul; and I am of Apollo; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

Hoc autem dic, quod et unusquis vestro dic: me quidem es de Paulo: me autem Apollo: me vero de Cephase: me autem de Christo.

Divisus est Christus? numquid Paulus crucifixus est pro vobis? aut in nomine Pauli baptizati estis?

Is Christ divided? Was Paul then crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Divisu es Christo? Numquid Paulo crucifige es pro vos? Aut in nomine de Paulo baptiza es?

Gratias ago Deo, quod neminem vestrum baptizavi, nisi Crispum et Caium:

I give God thanks, that I baptized none of you but Crispus and Caius:

Gratias age ad Deo, quod nemine vestro baptiza, nisi Crispo et Caio:

ne quis dicat quod in nomine meo baptizati estis.

Lest any should say that you were baptized in my name.

Ne qui que dic quod in nomine meo baptiza es.

Baptizavi autem et Stephanæ domum: ceterum nescio si quem alium baptizaverim.

And I baptized also the household of Stephanus. Besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.

Baptiza autem et de Stephanase domo: ceterum ne sci si quem alio baptiza.

Non enim misit me Christus baptizare, sed evangelizare: non in sapientia verbi, ut non evacuetur crux Christi.

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not in wisdom of speech, lest the cross of Christ should be made void.

Non nam Christo mitte me baptiza, sed evangeliza: non in sapientia de verbo, ut non cruce de Christo evacua.

Verbum enim crucis pereuntibus quidem stultitia est: iis autem qui salvi fiunt, id est nobis, Dei virtus est.

For the word of the cross, to them indeed that perish, is foolishness: but to them that are saved, that is, to us, it is the power of God.

Verbo nam de cruce peri quidem stultitia es: ad illo autem qui salva fi, id es ad nos, de Deo virtute es.

Scriptum est enim: Perdam sapientiam sapientium, et prudentiam prudentium reprobabo.

For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise: and the prudence of the prudent I will reject.

Scripto es nam: perde sapientia sapiens, et prudentia prudente reproba.

Ubi sapiens? ubi scriba? ubi conquisitor hujus sæculi? Nonne stultam fecit Deus sapientiam hujus mundi?

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

Ubi sape? Ubi scriba? Ubi conquisitore de hoc de saeculo? Nonne stulto Deo fac sapientia de hoc de mundo?

Nam quia in Dei sapientia non cognovit mundus per sapientiam Deum: placuit Deo per stultitiam prædicationis salvos facere credentes.

For, seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world, by wisdom, knew not God, it pleased God, by the foolishness of our preaching, to save them that believe.

Nam quia in Deo sapientia non mundo cognosce per sapientia Deo: place ad Deo per stultitia de praedicatione salva facere crede.

Quoniam et Judæi signa petunt, et Græci sapientiam quærunt:

For both the Jews require signs: and the Greeks seek after wisdom.

Quia et Iudaeos pete signos, et Graecias quaere sapientia:

nos autem prædicamus Christum crucifixum: Judæis quidem scandalum, gentibus autem stultitiam,

But we preach Christ crucified: unto the Jews indeed a stumblingblock, and unto the Gentiles foolishness:

Nos autem praedica Christo crucifige: ad iudaeos quidem scandalo, ad gentes autem stultitia,

ipsis autem vocatis Judæis, atque Græcis Christum Dei virtutem, et Dei sapientiam:

But unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ, the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Ipso autem voca Iudaeos, et ad Graeco Christo de Deo virtute, et de Deo sapientia:

quia quod stultum est Dei, sapientius est hominibus: et quod infirmum est Dei, fortius est hominibus.

For the foolishness of God is wiser than men: and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Quia quod stulto es de Deo, sapiens es ad homines: et quod infirmiori es de Deo, fortiter es ad homines.

Videte enim vocationem vestram, fratres, quia non multi sapientes secundum carnem, non multi potentes, non multi nobiles:

For see your vocation, brethren, that there are not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble.

Vide nam vocatione vestro, fratres, quia non multo sape secundo carne, non multo potente, non multo nobile:

sed quæ stulta sunt mundi elegit Deus, ut confundat sapientes: et infirma mundi elegit Deus, ut confundat fortia:

But the foolish things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the wise: and the weak things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the strong.

Sed Deo elige que stulto es de mundo, ut confunde sape: et Deo elige infirmiori de mundo, ut confunde fortis:

et ignobilia mundi, et contemptibilia elegit Deus, et ea quæ non sunt, ut ea quæ sunt destrueret:

And the base things of the world and the things that are contemptible, hath God chosen: and things that are not, that he might bring to nought things that are:

Et ignobile de mundo, et contemptibile Deo elige, et illa que non es, ut illa que es destrue:

ut non glorietur omnis caro in conspectu ejus.

That no flesh should glory in his sight.

Ut non omni carne glorior in conspectu de illo.

Ex ipso autem vos estis in Christo Jesu, qui factus est nobis sapientia a Deo, et justitia, et sanctificatio, et redemptio:

But of him are you in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom and justice and sanctification and redemption:

Ex ipso autem vos es in Christo Iesu, qui facto es ad nos sapientia ab Deo, et iustitia, et sanctificatione, et redemptione:

ut quemadmodum scriptum est: Qui gloriatur, in Domino glorietur.

That, as it is written: He that glorieth may glory in the Lord.

Ut quemadmodum scripto es: qui glorior, in Domino glorior.
