Liber II Paralipomenon

Regnavit autem Josaphat filius ejus pro eo, et invaluit contra Israël.

And Josaphat his son reigned in his stead, and grew strong against Israel.

Iosaphate autem filio de illo regna pro eo, et invalesce contra Israële.

Constituitque militum numeros in cunctis urbibus Juda quæ erant vallatæ muris. Præsidiaque disposuit in terra Juda, et in civitatibus Ephraim quas ceperat Asa pater ejus.

And he placed numbers of soldiers in all the fortified cities of Juda. And he put garrisons in the land of Juda, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

Et constitue de milites numeros in cuncta urbes Iuda que es valla muros. Et praesidios dispone in terra Iuda, et in civitates Ephraeme Asa patre de illo cape que.

Et fuit Dominus cum Josaphat, quia ambulavit in viis David patris sui primis: et non speravit in Baalim,

And the Lord was with Josaphat, because he walked in the first ways of David his father: and trusted not in Baalim,

Et es Domino cum Iosaphate, quia ambula in vias Davide de patre suo primo: et non spera in Baalime,

sed in Deo patris sui: et perrexit in præceptis illius, et non juxta peccata Israël.

But in the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not according to the sins of Israel.

Sed in Deo de patre suo: et perge in praeceptos de illo, et non juxta peccatos Israële.

Confirmavitque Dominus regnum in manu ejus, et dedit omnis Juda munera Josaphat: factæque sunt ei infinitæ divitiæ, et multa gloria.

And the Lord established the kingdom in his hand, and all Juda brought presents to Josaphat: and he acquired immense riches, and much glory.

Et Domino confirma regno in manu de illo, et da omni Iuda muneres Iosaphate: et fac es ad illo infinita divitias, et multo gloria.

Cumque sumpsisset cor ejus audaciam propter vias Domini, etiam excelsa et lucos de Juda abstulit.

And when his heart had taken courage for the ways of the Lord, he took away also the high places and the groves out of Juda.

Cumque sume corde de illo audacia propter vias de Domino, etiam excelso et lucos de Iuda aufer.

Tertio autem anno regni sui misit de principibus suis Benhail, et Obdiam, et Zachariam, et Nathanaël, et Michæam, ut docerent in civitatibus Juda:

And in the third year of his reign, he sent of his princes Benhail, and Abdias, and Zacharias, and Nathanael, and Micheas, to teach in the cites of Juda:

Tertio autem anno de regno suo mitte de principes suo Benhaile, et Obdia, et Zachariase, et Nathanaële, et Michaea, ut doce in civitates Iuda:

et cum eis Levitas Semeiam, et Nathaniam, et Zabadiam, Asaël quoque, et Semiramoth, et Jonathan, Adoniamque et Thobiam, et Thobadoniam Levitas, et cum eis Elisama, et Joran sacerdotes:

And with them the Levites, Semeias, and Nathanias, and Zabadias, and Asael, and Semiramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonias, and Tobias, and Thobadonias Levites, and with them Elisama, and Joram priests.

Et cum illos Levites Semeia, et Nathaniase, et Zabadia, Asaële etiam, et Semiramoth, et Ionathane, et Adonia et Thobia, et Thobadonia Levites, et cum illos Elisama, et Iorane sacerdotes:

docebantque populum in Juda, habentes librum legis Domini, et circuibant cunctas urbes Juda, atque erudiebant populum.

And they taught the people in Juda, having with them the book of the law of the Lord: and they went about all the cities of Juda, and instructed the people.

Et doce populo in Iuda, habe libro de lege de Domino, et circui cuncta urbes Iuda, et erudi populo.

Itaque factus est pavor Domini super omnia regna terrarum quæ erant per gyrum Juda, nec audebant bellare contra Josaphat.

And the fear of the Lord came upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Juda, and they durst not make war against Josaphat.

Itaque facto es pavore de Domino super omni regnos de terras que es per gyro Iuda, nec aude bella contra Iosaphate.

Sed et Philisthæi Josaphat munera deferebant, et vectigal argenti: Arabes quoque adducebant pecora, arietum septem millia septingenta, et hircorum totidem.

The Philistines also brought presents to Josaphat, and tribute in silver, and the Arabians brought him cattle, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and as many he goats.

Sed et de Philisthaeo Iosaphate defer muneres, et vectigale de argento: arabes etiam adduce pecores, de arietis septeme mile septingenta, et de hircos totideme.

Crevit ergo Josaphat, et magnificatus est usque in sublime: atque ædificavit in Juda domos ad instar turrium, urbesque muratas.

And Josaphat grew, and became exceeding great: and he built in Juda houses like towers, and walled cities.

Iosaphate ergo cresce, et magnifica es usque in sublime: et aedifica in Iuda domos ad instares de turres, et urbes mura.

Et multa opera paravit in urbibus Juda: viri quoque bellatores et robusti erant in Jerusalem,

And he prepared many works in the cities of Juda: and he had warriors, and valiant men in Jerusalem.

Et multo operes para in urbes Iuda: viros etiam bellatores et robusta es in Ierusalem,

quorum iste numerus per domos atque familias singulorum: in Juda principes exercitus, Ednas dux, et cum eo robustissimi viri trecenta millia.

Of whom this is the number of the houses and families of every one: in Juda captains of the army, Ednas the chief, and with him three hundred thousand most valiant men.

De que isto numero per domos et de familia singulo: in Iuda principes de exercitu, Ednase duce, et cum eo robusta viros trecenti mile.

Post hunc Johanan princeps, et cum eo ducenta octoginta millia.

After him Johanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand.

Post hoc Iohanase principe, et cum eo ducenti octoginta mile.

Post istum quoque Amasias filius Zechri, consecratus Domino, et cum eo ducenta millia virorum fortium.

And after him was Amasias the son of Zechri, consecrated to the Lord, and with him were two hundred thousand valiant men.

Post isto etiam Amasiase filio Zech, consecra ad Domino, et cum eo ducenti mile de viros de fortis.

Hunc sequebatur robustus ad prælia Eliada, et cum eo tenentium arcum et clypeum ducenta millia.

After him was Eliada valiant in battle, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield.

Robusta seque hoc ad praelios Eliada, et cum eo tene arcu et clypeo ducenti mile.

Post istum etiam Jozabad, et cum eo centum octoginta millia expeditorum militum.

After him also was Jozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready for war.

Post isto etiam Iozabade, et cum eo cento octoginta mile de expeditos de milites.

Hi omnes erant ad manum regis, exceptis aliis quos posuerat in urbibus muratis in universo Juda.

All these were at the hand of the king, beside others, whom he had put in the walled cities, in all Juda.

Illo omni es ad manu de rege, excipe alio que pone in urbes mura in universa Iuda.
