Epistola II ad Timotheum

Paulus Apostolus Jesu Christi per voluntatem Dei, secundum promissionem vitæ, quæ est in Christo Jesu,

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus:

Paulo Apostolo de Iesu de Christo per voluntate de Deo, secundo promissione de vita, que es in Christo Iesu,

Timotheo carissimo filio: gratia, misericordia, pax a Deo Patre, et Christo Jesu Domino nostro.

To Timothy, my dearly beloved son. Grace, mercy and peace, from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ad timotheo carissimo ad filio: gratia, misericordia, pace ab Deo Patre, et Christo Iesu Domino nostro.

Gratias ago Deo, cui servio a progenitoribus in conscientia pura, quod sine intermissione habeam tui memoriam in orationibus meis, nocte ac die

I give thanks to God, whom I serve from my forefathers, with a pure conscience, that without ceasing I have a remembrance of thee in my prayers, night and day.

Gratias age ad Deo, ad que servi ab progenitores in conscientia purissimo, quod sine intermissione habe tuo memoria in orationes meo, nocte et die

desiderans te videre, memor lacrimarum tuarum, ut gaudio implear,

Desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy:

Desidera te videre, memore de lacrimas tuo, ut gaudio imple,

recordationem accipiens ejus fidei, quæ est in te non ficta, quæ et habitavit primum in avia tua Loide, et matre tua Eunice, certus sum autem quod et in te.

Calling to mind that faith which is in thee unfeigned, which also dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois and in thy mother Eunice, and I am certain that in thee also.

Recordatione accipe de illo de fide, que es in te non finge, que et habita primo in avia tuo de Loe, et matre tuo Eunice, certo es autem quod et in te.

Propter quam causam admoneo te ut resuscites gratiam Dei, quæ est in te per impositionem manuum mearum.

For which cause I admonish thee that thou stir up the grace of God which is in thee by the imposition of my hands.

Propter quam causa admone te ut resusca gratia de Deo, que es in te per impositione de manus meo.

Non enim dedit nobis Deus spiritum timoris: sed virtutis, et dilectionis, et sobrietatis.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear: but of power and of love and of sobriety.

Non nam da ad nos Deo spiritu de timore: sed de virtute, et de dilectione, et de sobrietate.

Noli itaque erubescere testimonium Domini nostri, neque me vinctum ejus: sed collabora Evangelio secundum virtutem Dei:

Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but labour with the gospel, according to the power of God.

Ne vol itaque erubesce testimonio de Domino nostro, neque me vince de illo: sed collabora Evangelio secundo virtute de Deo:

qui nos liberavit, et vocavit vocatione sua sancta, non secundum opera nostra, sed secundum propositum suum, et gratiam, quæ data est nobis in Christo Jesu ante tempora sæcularia.

Who hath delivered us and called us by his holy calling, not according to our own works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the times of the world:

Qui libera nos, et voca vocatione suo sancto, non secundo operes nostro, sed secundo proposito suo, et gratia, que da es ad nos in Christo Iesu ante tempores saeculare.

Manifestata est autem nunc per illuminationem Salvatoris nostri Jesu Christi, qui destruxit quidem mortem, illuminavit autem vitam, et incorruptionem per Evangelium:

But is now made manifest by the illumination of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath destroyed death and hath brought to light life and incorruption by the gospel.

Manifesta es autem nunc per illuminatione de Salvatore nostro de Iesu de Christo, qui destruca quidem morte, illumina autem vita, et incorruptione per Evangelio:

in quo positus sum ego prædicator, et Apostolus, et magister gentium.

Wherein I am appointed a preacher and an apostle and teacher of the Gentiles.

In quo posito es me praedicatore, et Apostolo, et magistro de gentes.

Ob quam causam etiam hæc patior, sed non confundor. Scio enim cui credidi, et certus sum quia potens est depositum meum servare in illum diem.

For which cause, I also suffer these things: but I am not ashamed. For I know whom I have believed and I am certain that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him, against that day.

Ob quam causa etiam hoc pate, sed non confunde. Sci nam ad que crede, et certo es quia potente es depone meo serva in illo die.

Formam habe sanorum verborum, quæ a me audisti in fide, et in dilectione in Christo Jesu.

Hold the form of sound words which thou hast heard of me: in faith and in the love which is in Christ Jesus.

Forma habe sana de verbos, que ab me audi in fide, et in dilectione in Christo Iesu.

Bonum depositum custodi per Spiritum Sanctum, qui habitat in nobis.

Keep the good thing committed to thy trust by the Holy Ghost who dwelleth in us.

Bono depone ad custode per Spiritu Sancto, qui habita in nos.

Scis hoc, quod aversi sunt a me omnes, qui in Asia sunt, ex quibus est Phigellus, et Hermogenes.

Thou knowest this, that all they who are in Asia are turned away from me: of whom are Phigellus and Hermogenes.

Sci hoc, quod averte es ab me omni, qui in Asia es, ex que es Phigello, et Hermogene.

Det misericordiam Dominus Onesiphori domui: quia sæpe me refrigeravit, et catenam meam non erubuit:

The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus: because he hath often refreshed me and hath not been ashamed of my chain:

Domino de Onesiphorio ad domo que da misericordia: quia saepe me refrigera, et catena meo non erubesce:

sed cum Romam venisset, sollicite me quæsivit, et invenit.

But when he was come to Rome, he carefully sought me and found me.

Sed cum Roma veni, sollicite me quaere, et inveni.

Det illi Dominus invenire misericordiam a Domino in illa die. Et quanta Ephesi ministravit mihi, tu melius nosti.

The Lord grant unto him to find mercy of the Lord in that day. And in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou very well knowest.

Domino ad illo que da inveni misericordia ab Domino in illa die. Et quanto de Epheso ministra ad me, te bene nosce.
