Sirach
Miserere nostri, Deus omnium, et respice nos, et ostende nobis lucem miserationum tuarum:
Have mercy upon us, O God of all, and behold us, and shew us the light of thy mercies:
Misereor nostro, Deo de omni, et respice nos, et ostende ad nos luce de miserationes tuo:
et immitte timorem tuum super gentes quæ non exquisierunt te, ut cognoscant quia non est deus nisi tu, et enarrent magnalia tua.
And send thy fear upon the nations, that have not sought after thee: that they may know that there is no God beside thee, and that they may shew forth thy wonders.
Et immitte timore tuo super gentes que non exquaera te, ut cognosce quia non deo es nisi te, et enarre magnalias tuo.
Alleva manum tuam super gentes alienas, ut videant potentiam tuam.
Lift up thy hand over the strange nations, that they may see thy power.
Alleva manu tuo super gentes aliena, ut vide potentia tuo.
Sicut enim in conspectu eorum sanctificatus es in nobis, sic in conspectu nostro magnificaberis in eis:
For as thou hast been sanctified in us in their sight, so thou shalt be magnified among them in our presence,
Sicut nam in conspectu de illos sanctifica es in nos, sic in conspectu nostro magnifica in illos:
ut cognoscant te, sicut et nos cognovimus quoniam non est deus præter te, Domine.
That they may know thee, as we also have known thee, that there is no God beside thee, O Lord.
Ut cognosce te, sicut et nos cognosce quia non es deo praeter te, Domino.
Innova signa, et immuta mirabilia.
Renew thy signs, and work new miracles.
Inna signos, et immuto mirabili.
Glorifica manum et brachium dextrum.
Glorify thy hand, and thy right arm.
Elorifica manu et brachio dextro.
Excita furorem, et effunde iram.
Raise up indignation, and pour out wrath.
Excita furore, et effunde ira.
Tolle adversarium, et afflige inimicum.
Take away the adversary, and crush the enemy.
Lola adversario, et afflige inimico.
Festina tempus, et memento finis, ut enarrent mirabilia tua.
Hasten the time, and remember the end, that they may declare thy wonderful works.
Festina tempore, et mene fine, ut enarre mirabili tuo.
In ira flammæ devoretur qui salvatur: et qui pessimant plebem tuam inveniant perditionem.
Let him that escapeth be consumed by the rage of the fire: and let them perish that oppress thy people.
In ira de flamma devora qui salva: et qui pessima plebe tuo inveni perditione.
Contere caput principum inimicorum, dicentium: Non est alius præter nos.
Crush the head of the princes of the enemies that say: There is no other beside us.
Conte capite de principes de inimicos, dic: non alio praeter nos es.
Congrega omnes tribus Jacob, ut cognoscant quia non est deus nisi tu, et enarrent magnalia tua, et hæreditabis eos sicut ab initio.
Gather together all the tribes of Jacob: that they may know that there no God besides thee, and may declare thy great works: and thou shalt inherit them as from the beginning.
Congrega omni tre Iacobo, ut cognosce quia non deo es nisi te, et enarre magnalias tuo, et haeredita illos sicut ab initio.
Miserere plebi tuæ, super quam invocatum est nomen tuum, et Israël quem coæquasti primogenito tuo.
Have mercy on thy people, upon whom thy name is invoked: and upon Israel, whom thou hast raised up to be thy firstborn.
Misereor ad plebe tuo, super quam invoca es nomine tuo, et Israële quem coaequa primogenito tuo.
Miserere civitati sanctificationis tuæ, Jerusalem, civitati requiei tuæ.
Have mercy on Jerusalem, the city which thou hast sanctified, the city of thy rest.
Misereor ad civitate de sanctificatione tuo, Ierusalem, ad civitate de requie tuo.
Reple Sion inenarrabilibus verbis tuis, et gloria tua populum tuum.
Fill Sion with thy unspeakable words, and thy people with thy glory.
Reple Sione inenarrabili verbos tuo, et gloria tuo populo tuo.
Da testimonium his qui ab initio creaturæ tuæ sunt, et suscita prædicationes quas locuti sunt in nomine tuo prophetæ priores.
Give testimony to them that are thy creatures from the beginning, and raise up the prophecies which the former prophets spoke in thy name.
Da testimonio ad hoc qui ab initio de creatura tuo es, et suscita praedicationes que loque es in nomine tuo prophetas priore.
Da mercedem sustinentibus te, ut prophetæ tui fideles inveniantur: et exaudi orationes servorum tuorum,
Reward them that patiently wait for thee, that thy prophets may be found faithful: and hear the prayers of thy servants,
Da mercede sustine te, ut prophetas tuo fideli inveni: et exaudi orationes de servos tuo,
secundum benedictionem Aaron de populo tuo: et dirige nos in viam justitiæ, et sciant omnes qui habitant terram quia tu es Deus conspector sæculorum.
According to the blessing of Aaron over thy people, and direct us into the way of justice, and let all know that dwell upon the earth, that thou art God the beholder of all ages.
Secundo benedictione Aarone de populo tuo: et dirige nos in via de iustitia, et omni qui habita terra sci quia te es Deo conspectore de saeculos.
Omnem escam manducabit venter: et est cibus cibo melior.
The belly will devour all meat, yet one is better than another.
Ventre manduca omni esca: et cibo es cibo bono.
Fauces contingunt cibum feræ, et cor sensatum verba mendacia.
The palate tasteth venison and the wise heart false speeches.
Fauces continge cibo de fera, et corde sensata verbos mendacias.
Cor pravum dabit tristitiam, et homo peritus resistet illi.
A perverse heart will cause grief, and a man of experience will resist it.
Corde prava i da tristitia, et homine perito resiste ad illo.
Omnem masculum excipiet mulier: et est filia melior filia.
A woman will receive every man: yet one daughter is better than another.
Muliere excipe omni masculo: et es filia bono filia.
Species mulieris exhilarat faciem viri sui, et super omnem concupiscentiam hominis superducit desiderium.
The beauty of a woman cheereth the countenance of her husband, and a man desireth nothing more.
Specie de muliere exhilor facie de viro suo, et super omni concupiscentia de homine superduce desiderio.
Si est lingua curationis, est et mitigationis et misericordiæ: non est vir illius secundum filios hominum.
If she have a tongue that can cure, and likewise mitigate and shew mercy: her husband is not like other men.
Si lingua de curatione es, es et de mitigatione et de misericordia: non es viro de illo secundo filios de homines.
Qui possidet mulierem bonam inchoat possessionem: adjutorium secundum illum est, et columna ut requies.
He that possesseth a good wife, beginneth a possession: she is a help like to himself, and a pillar of rest.
Qui posside muliere bono inca possessione: adiutorio secundo illo es, et columna ut requie.
Ubi non est sepes, diripietur possessio: et ubi non est mulier, ingemiscit egens.
Where there is no hedge, the possession shall be spoiled: and where there is no wife, he mourneth that is in want.
Ubi non sepe es, possessione diripe: et ubi non muliere es, ingemisce ege.
Quis credit ei qui non habet nidum, et deflectens ubicumque obscuraverit, quasi succinctus latro exiliens de civitate in civitatem?
Who will trust him that hath no rest, and that lodgeth wheresoever the night taketh him, as a robber well appointed, that skippeth from city to city.
Qui crede ad illo qui non habe nido, et deflecte ubicumque quasi, succinge latro obscura ex(s)ili de civitate in civitate?
