Liber I Paralipomenon

Iniit autem consilium David cum tribunis, et centurionibus, et universis principibus,

David consulted with the captains of thousands, and of hundreds, and with all the commanders.

Intra autem consilio Davide cum tribunos, et centuriones, et universa principes,

et ait ad omnem cœtum Israël: Si placet vobis, et a Domino Deo nostro egreditur sermo quem loquor, mittamus ad fratres nostros reliquos in universas regiones Israël, et ad sacerdotes et Levitas qui habitant in suburbanis urbium, ut congregentur ad nos,

And he said to all the assembly of Israel: If it please you; and if the words which I speak come from the Lord our God, let us send to the rest of our brethren into all the countries of Israel, and to the priests, and the Levites, that dwell in the suburbs of the cities, to gather themselves to us,

Et dic ad omni coeto Israële: si place ad vos, et ab Domino Deo nostro sermone quem loque egredior, mitte ad fratres nostro reliqua in universa regiones Israële, et ad sacerdotes et Levites qui habita in suburbanas de urbes, ut congrega ad nos,

et reducamus arcam Dei nostri ad nos: non enim requisivimus eam in diebus Saul.

And let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we sought it not in the days of Saul.

Et reduce arca de Deo nostro ad nos: non nam require illa in dies Saulo.

Et respondit universa multitudo ut ita fieret: placuerat enim sermo omni populo.

And all the multitude answered that it should be so: for the word pleased all the people.

Et universa multitudine responde ut ita fi: sermone nam place omni populo.

Congregavit ergo David cunctum Israël, a Sihor Ægypti usque dum ingrediaris Emath, ut adduceret arcam Dei de Cariathiarim.

So David assembled all Israel from Sihor of Egypt, even to the entering into Emath, to bring the ark of God from Cariathiarim.

Congrega ergo Davide cuncta Israële, ab Sihor de Aegypto usque dum ingredior Emath, ut adduce arca de Deo de Cariathiarim.

Et ascendit David, et omnis vir Israël, ad collem Cariathiarim, qui est in Juda, ut afferret inde arcam Domini Dei sedentis super cherubim, ubi invocatum est nomen ejus.

And David went up with all the men of Israel to the hill of Cariathiarim which is in Juda, to bring thence the ark of the Lord God sitting upon the cherubims, where his name is called upon.

Et ascende Davide, et omni viro Israële, ad colle Cariathiarim, qui es in Iuda, ut ad-fer inde arca de Domino de Deo sede super cherubes, ubi invoca es nomine de illo.

Imposueruntque arcam Dei super plaustrum novum, de domo Abinadab: Oza autem, et frater ejus minabant plaustrum.

And they carried the ark of God upon a new cart out of the house of Abinadab. And Oza and his brother drove the cart.

Et impone arca de Deo super plaustro novo, de domo Abinadabe: oza autem, et fratre de illo minor plaustro.

Porro David, et universus Israël, ludebant coram Deo omni virtute in canticis, et in citharis, et psalteriis, et tympanis, et cymbalis, et tubis.

And David and all Israel played before God with all their might with hymns, and with harps, and with psalteries, and timbrels, and cymbals, and trumpets,

Porro Davide, et universa Israële, lude coram Deo omni virtute in canticos, et in citharas, et psalterios, et tympanos, et cymbale, et tubos.

Cum autem pervenisset ad aream Chidon, tetendit Oza manum suam, ut sustentaret arcam: bos quippe lasciviens paululum inclinaverat eam.

And when they came to the floor of Chidon, Oza put forth his hand, to hold up the ark: for the ox being wanton had made it lean a little on one side.

Cum autem perveni ad area de Chidone, tete Oza manu suo, ut sustenta arca: bove quippe lascivie paul(l)ulum inclina illa.

Iratus est itaque Dominus contra Ozam, et percussit eum, eo quod tetigisset arcam: et mortuus est ibi coram Domino.

And the Lord was angry with Oza, and struck him, because he had touched the ark; and he died there before the Lord.

Irato es itaque Domino contra Ozame, et percute illo, eo quod tange arca: et morto es ibi coram Domino.

Contristatusque est David, eo quod divisisset Dominus Ozam: vocavitque locum illum Divisio Ozæ, usque in præsentem diem.

And David was troubled because the Lord had divided Oza: and he called that place the Breach of Oza to this day.

Et contrista es Davide, eo quod Domino Ozame divide: et Divisione de Oza voca loco illo, usque in praesenti die.

Et timuit Deum tunc temporis, dicens: Quomodo possum ad me introducere arcam Dei?

And he feared God at that time, saying: How can I bring in the ark of God to me?

Et time Deo tunc de tempore, dicente: quomodo pote ad me introduce arca de Deo?

et ob hanc causam non adduxit eam ad se, hoc est, in civitatem David, sed avertit in domum Obededom Gethæi.

And therefore he brought it not home to himself, that is, into the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gethite.

Et ob hoc causa non adduce illa ad se, hoc es, in civitate Davide, sed averte in domo Obededome de Gethaeo.

Mansit ergo arca Dei in domo Obededom tribus mensibus: et benedixit Dominus domui ejus, et omnibus quæ habebat.

And the ark of God remained in the house of Obededom three months: and the Lord blessed his house, and all that he had.

Arca ergo de Deo mane in domo Obededome tre mense: et Domino benedic ad domo de illo, et ad omni que habe.
